Due to their affordable prices and impressive features, Huawei’s have performed well among the South African public during recent years.

The Huawei P20 was meant to be a successor to the P10 which enjoyed a lot of success on our shores and while it makes for a decent smartphone with a good-looking screen, good stamina and a good camera, it is not the ideal P10 successor.

It perhaps should not have been named the P20 but perhaps P11 or P12. Every positive quality that the P20 boasts is beaten by the P20 pro. Even though you will have to pay about R2500 more to get the latter, you will get 2GB more Ram, an OLED screen, a bigger battery and a whole extra camera.

The P20’s main competitors are the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ and unless you get a very good offer, you should perhaps opt for its competitors.

The Huawei P20 is available for purchase for a price of around R12 999.

The phone is being offered on contract deals this month by MTN and Cell C. Cell C are offering the phone as part of their Pinnacle 250 deal for R699 per month. As part of this deal, the phone comes with 250 minutes, 250 SMS’s, 250MB data and 5GB free data per month for streaming on black.

MTN are offering the phone as part of their My MTNSky Lite deal. For R1399 per month, you can get unlimited minutes, unlimited SMS’s and 3gb data.

This represents a better deal especially if you make a lot of calls. It provides more data and though it will cost more. Moreover, it will present you with better value for money than the Cell C Pinnacle 250 deal.
